One of the most depressing things about the end of the DS/3DS era was Nintendo point-blank not doing 2D and/or pixel art games anymore outside the WarioWare/Rhythm Heaven team. All of their "2D" games nowadays are very much still 3D. AlphaDream was sorta the last stubborn gasp before it all halted.

As someone who feels the same way, I'd humbly suggest the 2023 Lords of the Fallen. It's got a lot of the old Demon's/Dark Souls 1 formula inside of it, and really feels like an intentional move back to a slower, more focused version of where the Souls games ended up. I was pleasantly surprised.
