Just made a quick search. Just making sure Jerry Pournelle you're talking about is the guy who made the Pournelle chart? (side note: I prefer this chart) The dispute over "deserves" is precisely the point made in Book I. It may be actionable but not justifiable, just like the power definition.

When used properly they are good. Alot of people miss the point that the sick person needs to wear a mask. If you wear a mask and hang around someone who's sick, sure it could protect a bit but they are still heavily spreading. When u are sick, mask up.
