I also think this tactic could easily be used to defuse arguments about trans rights as well. I'd love to see people pinned down on the implications of their transphobic policy prescriptions and not given outs to remain silent about them.

I think my favorite part about AES's approach here is that he asks questions back to Tommy that could easily be taken as rhetorical but he explicitly asks for a verbal response. It's a very teacher-y tactic (laudatory) and I think it works to build credibility rather than simply display dominance.

Something I feel is worth noting, especially now: At no point did anyone lay a hand on Tommy. He was jeered and laughed at, but he walked out. Compare that to the protester at that Trump rally who got assaulted. And that's not new behavior. Don't tell me Republicans and Democrats are the same.
