I’m also an American who grew up learning about the merits of secular democracy. I am utterly convinced that is the only path forward for Israel. Equal rights, equal protection for all. It won’t be easy, but South Africa overcame apartheid. It’s not perfect, but it’s working better than it was.

I’m a Jewish person and I grew up in a community that was pretty supportive of Israel. On the question of Palestinian rights, the answer I always heard was “two states.” I do not believe that is a viable solution. I think it was always a punt. Religious ethnostates are inherently fucked.
