@rarakihydro.bsky.socialIt now also appears that another significant humid heatwave may develop over much of CA during this period, at that includes both northern and southern CA. In fact, we may see yet another diabatic (latent) heating-boosted heat event as Marie's remnants drop heavy precip offshore.
Show PostAt last, a clearer forecast re: California and Marie! Marie is now weakening and will stay well offshore. However, confidence has increased that Marie's remnants will actually have a substantial influence on CA weather for the next 5-6 days! [Thread] #CAwx
Show PostWe may seem some genuinely extreme humidity levels along SoCal coastal plain Tue-Wed (yes, even worse than today). As Marie's tropical moisture lingers, temps of 90-100F will combine with dew points of 70F to nearly 80F (!), yielding heat index values as high as ~110F. #CAwx
Show PostWith widespread temperatures in 95-105F range, plus very high humidity (dew points mostly 65-70F), heat index/apparent temperatures are now 105-110F across most of SoCal, with pockets of 110-115F. Peak may be a bit higher still later this PM. This humid heatwave is no joke! #CAwx
Show PostNSF just announced its GRFP solicitation due in October - deadline varies by field: www.nsf.gov/funding/oppo... Now for the bad news... * NSF estimates they will issue 1,500 awards, down from 2,500+ last year. * NSF removed STEM Education and Learning Research as a Major Field.
