@captainkirk1041.bsky.socialThe debate about higher-order networks continues. It’s moving towards a fruitful discussion, but it needs time. I unpack for #ComplexityThoughts my take on a recent paper appeared on the arXiv: manlius.substack.com/p/do-higher-... #ComplexSystems
Show Post1/3 Love the higher-order representations by @manlius.bsky.social at manlius.substack.com/p/do-higher-.... I particularly like the contribution by Alex Arenas and colleagues (and this response by Manlio) to think about it all in terms of modeling goals.
Show PostNeural networks can supposedly solve a Millennium Prize problem, but they still can't colour graphs... I am pleased to share my first preprint on combinatorial optimisation with @gcant.bsky.social. Read more: arxiv.org/pdf/2609.07456
Show PostAlso shows there is new physics to discover: a learned equation was more accurate than one derived by standard argument, so a better approximation *exists*. Now we just need to find it from first principles!
Show Post"And if I give AI a scientific problem, it might well solve it. But if I give that problem to a young researcher instead, I don’t just get the solution: I get a human being who understands more than they did before. And that is what matters." bsky.app/profile/josh...
