I think something just happened that the murderer didn't plan for. All book long, they've been chiming in with narration to brag about the next step in their plan. But once Darius works out that they're following a murder mystery formula, they simply respond "Oh, fuck!"

Listening to "How To Write A Murder" and wondering how the murderer is supposed to have arranged for Isabel and Darius to have an intimate chat by the fireplace. There better be one hell of a reveal at the end of this book.
