It's even more bizarre given that psychoanalytic theory actually places so much emphasis on infant psychic life! Even if we don't consciously remember, theory assumes impact on later development.

I have read what feels like *endless* theory about how very early childhood experiences that we are too young to remember impact us (which I find compelling!). to have the trauma of infant removal from mother dismissed like this is bizarre and nonsensical to me.

It also seems oddly negating of the role of fantasy in psychic development. Like even without an “actual” attachment to a birth parent, a person can still have a psychic attachment that’s real and important. Isn’t that the sort of thinking that psychoanalysis is known for?
