I think the unsaid thing in a lot of these in the US is parents with harmful, MAGA beliefs thinking they should have ‘normal’ relationships when their beliefs/votes are actively harming their kids or grandkids

When I cut my father off I was told again and again “There are no perfect parents”. If only he had just been imperfect. If only we could have had a conversation in which he was accountable for the harm he did. That’s why parents are cut off.

This is it. I say to people all the time who are concerned about making mistakes as a parent, it’s not the mistakes that matter so much as your willingness to hear about them without denial or doubling down. Repair is even better.

Post-therapy lavender latte and squash bread, as per GVD's October "safety plan" (eat good food/warm drinks, be with people i love/love me, sleep however much I can with whatever help I need etc)... we'll see how much of Bion's negative capability I manage to read before Former Housemate shows up!
