Trump cannot understand Zelenskyy because Zelenskyy thinks being rich & powerful are less important than defying an invader & his saving his country. To Trump this is pig-headed, stupid. To Ukrainians, & non-sociopaths everywhere, it is simple patriotism. It is what any real leader would do.
