Had my whole perspective shifted by a Black woman online taking a minute to educate folks. I’d always felt so many of these displays were a bit too performative? Hadn’t realized that actually signaling safety to marginalized folx in a generally unsafe place could be the result. *mind-blown*
Show Post"AI" the machine learning toolset used in science for over a decade Vs "AI" the word guessing sycophant you ask dumb questions are not even close to the same. The latter is an application, of the former, to do something no one needs. The former can still be used for good things independent of that.
Show PostThis is very much the case in our field (climate) - lots of good productive uses of machine learning, but very little using LLMs. You even have ppl who have done real things with ML, then spoiling it entirely when they use AI slop in their presentation about it.
Show PostYeah, using LLM AI, with its requirement for mega environment-destroying data centers, for CLIMATE SCIENCES is hilariously ironic in a bad way. The people who don't see and understand that can't be legitimate climate/environmental scientists.
Show PostI love how you hold a mirror up to this strange world. Wait, *reflecting* pool… I finally get it.
