He is. I did meet Cavalli a few times, once at a memorable dinner with Craig Venter - off the record, unfortunately - who tried to impress him and failed.

I already knew he was not a good person at this point - despite really enjoying his book "Climbing Mount Improbable" which my dad gave me as a kid - but this just really cemented it in my mind. Hearing his factually wrong beliefs about evolution & his racism from the horse's mouth was just... wow.

Given that when I heard him speak at UW he got several important things in evolutionary biology - the field he wrote about constantly - completely wrong (and is a racist asshat to boot) I can't say I'm surprised?
