How many species there were for any single taxon? The time-discovery accumulation curves is one way to answer this question by means of estimation and extrapolation. It seems such inference is sensistive to the patterns and strcutures in the data. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... 🧪⚒️ #Paleobio
Show PostImpressed with the viability of freshly collected musk mallow seed. Around 100 seedlings in each of these cells! A top tip for splitting these up when transplanting is to soak in water enabling the soil to break free and the roots to untangle easily when gently pulled.
Show PostAn Ice Age glacier tore huge slabs of chalk from the bedrock, carried them hundreds of metres and dumped them here at Trimingham, Norfolk. Some of these glacial rafts contain among the youngest chalk found onshore in Britain. #Norfolk #Geology #AerialPhotography
Show PostSome #Diptera from Wednesday's wildlife group at Oaks Wood all caught by @lancefly.bsky.social The very smart Platypezid Callomyia amoena, the anomalous (they predate aphids instead of munching fruit) Drosophilidae, Acletoxenus formosus & Fannia pallitibia. #ukwildlife @dipteristsforum.bsky.social
Show PostFew classic toadstool-like fungi at a very dry @bbowt.bsky.social Dancersend reserve but still interesting fungi on trees. A fallen beech was covered with Phlebia tremellosa and I love how it 'captures' and grows around the beech leaves. Nearby Wood Cauliflower growing from roots of an old larch.
