What those bases have done for us remains to be a question of course. Have the American public even acted remotely appreciative for us hosting them (against our will)? No they still vilify us Have they provided considerable protection? Not sure people in Juffair and nearby agree right now.

I've seen people questioning why Iran would "provoke" the Arab states by hitting their territory - it seems obvious to me that it's to force them to reevaluate, at least in the long term, their security relationship with the US. Force it to no longer be just "default" and unquestioned.
