30K USD would be FOUR YEARS of living expenses for me. :o I would spend a chunk on computer upgrades and stash the rest away to keep me going while I chip away at projects not having to worry about cash for a solid chunk of time. :B

30K would be enough for most people with a house to fix a major problem, enough to take a year off a mortgage, enough to afford to be able to look for a job that's less soul crushing. I do not comprehend the alternative interpretation.

It's always a good idea to remember that indies (of any sort) won't save you. The thing about indies is that in part they're a pressure valve because artists need to art, but that also brings their 'market value' down. If you want healthy indies you need to materially support them.
