One of my old students (Arab-Israeli Jewish parents, but she was fully American) explained that in Israel, you're either ortho or "not Jewish" according to the "what kind of Jew can you be" question. She said that was one of the main reasons they left - social exclusion.

They're also writing off most non-Orthodox Israeli Jews! One of Netanyahu's surrogates just called Eisenkot a monkey. Good thing he didn't lose a second son in Gaza or else they'd have taken out the coffin and noose playbook from the anti-Rabin protests from the 1990s.
