I remember the ridiculous hypothesis of a psychiatrist who accused sufferers of a complex illness of "social contagion" because they learned that, collectively, those symptoms can fall under the umbrella of a lesser known diagnosis. That isn't "social contagion". That's doing the job of a physician.
