Americanists who do look around comparatively at the rest of the world are much better situated to identify what's happening accurately & arrive at much less optimistic assessments of US democracy at present & in the medium term.

I really do need to write the essay "Japan as a failed conservative utopia" I.e. successfully avoided 3rd wave Feminism, Mass Immigration, preserved traditional industries, privatised all major public companies* destroyed the political left.....and it didn't work. *well actually this worked.

You've literally bent over backward to empower the people inviting these speakers onto campus. You've targeted the resources they demanded you to target, you've closed the departments they've demanded you close. You can't then turnaround and act as if this isn't on you.

Right-wing billionaires now own the Washington Post, the LA Times, CNN, CBS News, virtually every local TV station, virtually every news radio station, most local newspapers, X, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok. (Did I miss any?) They own almost the entire information environment.
