I favor chokecherry and serviceberry. I will repeat that we’re in an ecotone in a neighborhood with mature trees and multiple sources of water and open space nearby. I’ve said this before— #birds now drive my #nativeplant gardening. As plants mature, it pays off. I like where this is going!

mallard, hermit thrush. (Whew.) It’s migration season. There are a lot of #birds passing through; spring and fall always have high numbers for me. But—why so many birds this September? I have been using leaves as mulch increasingly, and it creates really good foraging space for invertebrates.
