I don't know what Democrats are supposed to do with our system as it is currently functioning (or not). Republicans can, and Democrats can't is not tenable. But I also don't see the backlash beyond thermostatic dynamics when it should be setting up for a complete rebuke either.

It all makes more sense when you accept that the American criminal justice system is designed to process cases and find guilt the way McDonald’s produces hamburgers; actually separating the guilty from the innocent is not an intended feature.

Trump's always a word salad of lies and nonsense but it's worth noting his specific claim here: his own CBP, which screens international arrivals at airports, has been allowing undocumented people to pass through their checkpoints.
