I miraculously have experienced cutting off a parent and the tentative healing of learning after almost a decade he’s had therapy because he ultimately valued connection with his kids. It IS possible for the consequence of actions to induce behaviour change, but ime as a therapist it is rare.

As a therapist I can tell you a lot more people are maintaining ties with abusive parents than are going no contact with them.
