Most likely related to Tarifit axecciw, which I know as "dust, filth", but Serhoual's dictionary also mentions a sense "strand of hair".
Show PostIn Kabyle we have a very similar word: Tameččimt which means a "dust bunny". The masculine form Ameččim usually means "snowflake" or "tuft of wool". Now I'm convinced that these words are related to Xeččew. Could it also be related to Aceččuy ("hair" in Kabyle) ? This was my initial thought.
Show Post#Awal_n_Wass Kabyle word of the day: >Xeččew (v.): to pull (someone's) hair. >Myexččaw (v.): to mutually pull each others hair, by extension to catfight.

Show PostWas talking to someone about this and I think this actually gets it exactly backwards: anglophones aren't giving up on language-learning because it's unnecessary, but because they're tapping out of globalization (ie. they can't compete with non-anglophones). It's a counsel of despair garbed in cope.
