I don't think LLMs are conscious but I do think (and I don't know if there have been studies on this or if this has been verified, it is just something I think is likely) people who regularly use LLMs and also frequently behave extremely abusively to LLMs are more likely to be dicks to humans too

it just always strikes me as a profoundly privileged vision for what society ought to care about. yeah we're not in the business of producing and distributing resources, we're here to make 40 year olds feel wanted for increasingly stupid reasons

one thing I don't like is when people talk about hypothetical automated futures where nobody has to work, and say they could be bad because their lives would be "sapped of meaning." like get over it big dog, get a hobby
