I'm a composer and arranger, husband, dog-lover (cats are okay too). I have retired from academia, and have lately focused on brass quintet arranging. I play with a local brass quintet and do a lot of arranging for our group. brassmagicmusic.com

One thing I love about writing for brass quintet is finding ways to create “growth” without relying on studio production. This arrangement of "Here Comes The Sun" deals with the challenging hypnotic section by gradually thinning out the texture. youtu.be/zlKcZ7Ft3NE #brassquintet

Just got off the phone with my brother who uses Canvas at his institution and holy hell I'm so sorry for everyone who uses Canvas. Grateful that SU uses Blackboard, but also thinking, in my luddite way, that this kind of vulnerability shows that maybe schools shouldn't use these platforms at all...
Show PostA colleague at another school in the area brought in a brass quintet & invited our SU student composers to write for them since their school doesn’t have many composers. Inspired by and grateful for this generosity. Heading out there today with the students. 🎶

Listening to the instrumental quintet at church make some beautiful music. Featuring French horn, bassoon, 2 flutes, and piano. As a former horn player, I’m loving the warm tones of that mellow brass instrument. #church #music #UU #openness
