Landlocked sailor hoping to get back to sea. I grew up in Albuquerque and I consider it my hometown. I really miss the Pacific Northwest though. Big hearted fella.

Picked up a little gift for myself.
Show PostI love working with natural fibre rope. I did -5 years working on tall ships. Working with real rope. I swear you could light a match on my calluses lol These look great!
Show PostDear modern sailors, especially fishermen. The left image is NOT how you complete the end of any rope. It’s lazy and unseanmen like. The image on the right is a proper way to end a line. You can make a common whipping in under a minute and looks so much better and holds up better than tape.
Show PostFinished the eye splice with a common whipping to cover the ends that I burned down. I don’t have any waxed thread onboard so this cotton thread will do the job.
Show PostFun fact. I was probably about 9 or 10 years old when I first learned how to splice.
