I’m very lucky to otherwise have good relationships with most of my beloved family, and am very close with my mom. If it’s helpful to anyone: I found some clarity in comparing those relationships, even ones involving conflict or other challenges, to the relationship with my estranged parent.

If you need separation from a parent, and this wave of bad-faith articles is getting in your head, take it from someone who just lost an estranged parent: even in fresh grief, the necessity of the estrangement remains clear to me. People arrive at estrangement after exhausting other options.
