Necessary but not awesome. By the end of the game most of the protagonist’s friends are dead. And it’s very much the intent: defending your homeland from an empire will be pure pain and misery but the alternative is your extinction at the hands of those who have no conscience.

that’s always been a problem with anything that involves a war story that’s trying to put in interesting gameplay. Seeing explosions is just cool to the old brain deep down. AC8 make it very clear everyone involved wishes they didn’t have to do any of this. One important pilot never shot down anyone
