I think a lot of people don't understand that even if a section is just lighthearted and fun with nothing else (not that chapter 5 is like that anyway?), that still has inherent value because it endears the audience to the characters, making them invested for when the big serious stuff does happen.

i had the same comparison in mind for a hot minute now, but also im like. even in "less plot relevant" section there's more going on in deltarune than there was in undertale's snowdin and hotland (not that i dislike them)

that's a good point. with both parents you have to think of more intricacies (child's relationship with both of them and parents relationship between each other)
