I should start *every* day off with this song. Cup of coffee + Shatner thundering “watching ROACHes! CLIMB the WALLS!” = I’m awake I’m awake

I'm watching Star Trek now and he has this glorious scolding quality to his voice whenever he has to tell an alien god that mankind's love of freedom is its greatest virtue or whatever, and he fully brings that to bear on this track.

It hits harder for me imo because the original version has the singer repeating what the girl was saying to him in the chorus but in the Shatner version HE is the one who wants to be like common people.

I love the original Pulp version of Common People. But man, Shatner's cover has something very special going on.
