this kind of thing is maddening. states are for solving collective action problems! the problem is that there are both compelling reasons why centralized services are better in most cases than than Mastadon, and compelling reasons why a right-wing corporate monarchy controlling one should be broken.
Show Postfurthermore, those reasons are directly and inextricably related to political speech acts which are intentionally obfuscated by those platforms. the reason that we need to crack down on Zuckerberg is precisely because we cannot let a fascist billionaire mediate all political speech.
Show Postthe basic idea is that there is some ontological reason why i should hold the personal property of a right-wing billionaire harmless for acts which would be correctly diagnosed as political censorship if it was the government acting.
Show Postthe basic idea Mike has is that it is not just impermissible to regulate this conduct, but that all free people should be terrified that their representatives even have the power to inquire as to what is going on there. no. fuck you.
Show Posti am very glad mike masnick read this and blocked me. '
