Portal and Portal 2 would be my personal choices. More recently, I think Cyberpunk 2077 handled this about as well as you could want from a blockbuster open world.
Show PostGame-chatter discourse is always fun. I recognise the instinct to keep players engaged and directed, but add too much, and the chatter has an air of fear and defensiveness. I've usually got some patience for it, but there is one high-profile series that I abandoned for that reason.
