trans people themselves obviously have been very against what's happening & there's been a handful of cis people who've consistently vocally opposed it but it really is just a handful

part of that is its our (nominally) centre-left party doing it, but if dems instituted a national bathroom ban plenty of cis libs & lefties would push back hard

part of it is media—there's been more articles criticising this us media than in UK media (not to put too fine a point on it, but there's been more articles *by me* in us media criticising the code than there has in all major uk outlets combined & it's not even the main thing i write on)

but part of it is just irreducibly temperamental you tell a brit about an injustice in their society & as often as not they do this odd awkward laugh & change the subject, like you're being embarrassing, or committing some faux pax, by brining it up
