Imagine a grant system that gave you approx 300k + overhead/year for up to 5 years; ability to submit 3 times/year; unlimited reapplications; no age limits; no limit on the grants you can receive. This used to be the NIH R01 grants in the US. We can do better in Europe. @erc.europa.eu

And I cannot resist posting once more what instantly captivated me in this work, the ability to see a low-dimensional shadow of the much higher-dimensional basins of attraction. Note the ridges coming out as connecting points for many basins!

Our work on the basins of attraction of repulsive soft spheres is out in PNAS! We show that, contrary to popular belief, careful integration of steepest descent is tractable even for thousands of spheres... And that there is no free lunch in energy landscape studies. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
