It's not a surprise to see on IMDB that Tom Skerritt had 176 acting credits from 1963 to 2025. His biggest sustained audience probably came in the four years he starred in Picket Fences. But for most of his career, he was never the point/always a bonus. You can't get much more honorable than that.

Whenever I write something like this that looks at AIDS history, a small minority of people will say things like "Get over it! Move on!" It's interesting to me that it's mostly those who remember it, not younger people. Anyway, to them: Nah. There's no getting over history, only getting through it.

I came up in the recap era, and I am immensely proud of that work and how it proved there was a real audience for substantive discussion of television, and also, it turned out you could multiply that audience by many thousands by just writing “five key takeaway” type articles about Mad Men episodes.
