yep, well written Rust doesn't protect against a sentinel "*", but the community norms and even the very design of the language encourage you to not go that route. Option/Result are right there for all your fallible values! C has no such thing built into it.

That is such a deep insult to the mountains of hard technical work that your slop is built on. My mistake to have higher expectations from humanity, but come on (Also, Rust is a very beautiful language)

Something @bcantrill.bsky.social pointed out in this evening's event was that a lot of the worst vibecoders have such disdain for the people building the infrastructure they're doing it on -- see someone like DHH (fascist as he is) calling the Rust language ugly
