    Yang Wen-Li, one of our two protagonists and the one on the Alliance side is tasked with what amounts to a suicide mission to take the Fortress from his superiors who want to get rid of him because they think he's dangerous for... Not being a complete fucking chud.

    Iserlohn Fortress was an artificial satellite built by the Empire at one of the two chokepoints between Alliance and Imperial space and it had weathered dozens of attempts by the Alliance to take it.

    In Legend of the Galactic Heroes there has been a 150 year long war between Galactic Empire, a Feudalist State founded by super hitler and the Free Planets Alliance, a rotting Liberal democracy initially founded by a refugee fleet fleeing imperial serfdom.
