    “Should we conduct a drone campaign” has to evaluated in light of the question “what happens if we don’t?” No one killed by ISIS will say “at least it wasn’t an American bomb.” The measure has to be human wellbeing, not “clean hands.” Prioritizing the latter is pure egotism.

    People need to understand war so they can stop believing every politician who takes any kind of military action that kills a civilian is the moral equivalent of Hitler. We live an imperfect world, so “best” is too often synonymous with “least evil.”

    Yes. Our ballot system is a total disaster, 10-20% are good or reasonable-ish, and the rest are created and sponsored by scumbags. If there was a CA proposition to end CA propositions, I would probably take a leave of absence to go campaign for it.

    The more I think about this the more irritating it is. It’s not just feckless, it’s actively & entirely voluntarily adopting the inevitable Republican talking point that accountability for rampant criminality is just “getting even.”
