    Slightly off-topic, but I liked this Radiolab where they pointed out that both the boulder and the hill would eventually be ground down into sand, making Sisyphus’s task pretty easy, to the point where he’s actually just taking a pleasant walk on level ground forever. radiolab.org/podcast/smal...

    You and @wiringthebrain.bsky.social were being nice, but that Nature piece sure took some weird turns. I was particularly struck by his claim of “the unavoidable observation that life has evolved towards ever-greater complexity”. 10^30 or so prokaryotes would beg to differ.

    Yeah, same. To some extent I'm thinking of the parallel between simplex vs interior point methods. We know how simplex fails to be efficient because we know convex bodies can have exponentially-complex boundaries The first IPMs were impractical compared to simplex. We still learned from them
