This episode helpfully distinguishes what Sold a Story waited until episode 5 to explicitly address, that they are talking about Direct Instruction (TM), a proprietary curriculum, and not direct instruction as a pedagogical practice. SaSep5 doesn't do justice to the implications of this distinction!

Truly an excellent episode. A breath of fresh air after slogging through Sold a Story - Season 2. The difference between how Schneider approaches this topic and how Hanford does it is, well, exactly what you'd expect given that Schneider is a knowledgeable expert.

This week’s episode of @haveyouheard.bsky.social is a great example of how to discuss, frame, & examine the complex topics like DI. Despite being members of the “eDuCaTiON eSTabLisHmeNt”, Jack & Jennifer model the nuance & epistemic humility that comes from developing *actual* expertise in a field.

Amazing episode and must listen for anyone currently making their way through Season 2 of Sold a Story. You are being sold a story, but a story is not necessarily THE story.

The episode is just a perfect example of the difference between a knowledgable expert, @jackschneider.bsky.social, and a "journalist" trying to sell a story to grab attention and audience. "It's complicated," which is always true in education, does not sell.
