Truly an excellent episode. A breath of fresh air after slogging through Sold a Story - Season 2. The difference between how Schneider approaches this topic and how Hanford does it is, well, exactly what you'd expect given that Schneider is a knowledgeable expert.

This week’s episode of @haveyouheard.bsky.social is a great example of how to discuss, frame, & examine the complex topics like DI. Despite being members of the “eDuCaTiON eSTabLisHmeNt”, Jack & Jennifer model the nuance & epistemic humility that comes from developing *actual* expertise in a field.

Amazing episode and must listen for anyone currently making their way through Season 2 of Sold a Story. You are being sold a story, but a story is not necessarily THE story.

The episode is just a perfect example of the difference between a knowledgable expert, @jackschneider.bsky.social, and a "journalist" trying to sell a story to grab attention and audience. "It's complicated," which is always true in education, does not sell.

This is exciting. Moving this to the front of my queue! Season 2 has frustrated me with the absence of 1) any discussion about Direct Instruction (TM) versus direct instruction and 2) the distinction between constrained and unconstrained learning. Like, is this season sponsored by McGraw-Hill?
