    On the QD thing, but also not... Too much genre discussion, especially in indie games, is aesthetics based. If it LOOKS like an old game, then people talk about it like that game, treating the mechanics as secondary. And not to be ludic about this, but it's like ignoring texture in food.

    funny enough this reminds me of the slight regret I had with comparing Angeline Era to Ys 1/2's bump combat because even though I tried to insist that it was just "partly influenced by it" it ended up being taken as "it can substitute for it" when the two games and mechanics are night and day
