    I don't even really interpret this as a centrist vs progressive thing and rather view it as sectarianism around one particular issue which also happens to be my number one issue. Same with Mamdani. If it was a strict centrist vs progressive thing you'd see it way more often.

    Part of the annoying thing about the “centrists always try to knife progressives” bit is that it conflates that happening in the primary (frequent and also that’s how primaries work, yes!) and then conflate that with doing it in the general (not terribly frequent!)

    This strikes me as an important distinction between the US and Europe when it comes to the dynamics of right-wing populism. The generation that remembers WWII and the Holocaust is dying out. The generation that remembers Jim Crow is still very much with us.

    the thing is that their readers are all progressives, except for the small handful of conservatives who grab their headlines for use in their ratfucking campaigns (or, in the case of chris rufo, generate their headlines) they know who their audience is and they hold them in contempt
