    this is why i hate the framing of trans sports bills as just "trans sports." yes it affects them and i hate that, but this is so much bigger than that and really shows that when it comes down to it, attacks on trans people will always always *always* hurt women and girls too.

    The crazy-making thing is it didn’t have to be this way. Pro-trans candidates crushed opponents and there is actually popular support when people vocally defend us. But it matters a lot, the rhetoric is deadly. Dems turning their backs on us hurts us enormously but it doesn’t help them at the polls.

    While people will argue that ballot measures show popular support is flagging: of course it is. Do you know why these passed? Because almost no one has defended us. We’ve been fending for ourselves. The average person sees this as tacit endorsement. It gives liberals a green light to discriminate.
