  Anfield, 26 May 1989. Moved from April because of Hillsborough, six days after Liverpool won the FA Cup. Arsenal players took bouquets to the Kop before kickoff. We needed to win by two. Smith just after half time, then Thomas in stoppage time. Champions on goals scored, with everything else level.

  The 2001 FA Cup final, the first played in Cardiff. Ljungberg put us ahead with 18 minutes left. Owen scored in the 83rd and 88th. In the first half Henchoz had stopped a Henry shot on the line with his hand. Nobody saw it. Wenger against Houllier, the first final between two foreign managers.

  Palmers was much less ambiguous. You have to project malice onto Dowman to come to the conclusion he was trying to kick him when it is just as likely he was trying to untangle his legs (doubly so given he doesn’t swing his leg back at all).

  I disagree. Dowman’s reaction, while poor, did not rise to the level of a red card. You’re almost never going to get it overturned on those grounds because it’s a judgement call, but the action itself was minimal and punishment extremely harsh.
