    Not a stretch to believe there need not be a literal interpretation of Rule 3(c)(1)(C) in this circumstance. But, bottom line, this is a ridiculous sideshow of DOJ's own making. They have templates for notices of appeal. Why they didn't use one, I do not know.

    Here, we have literal noncompliance, but also DOJ is a sophisticated party, as are every defendant. Everyone in the room knows that this appeal is being taken to the 9th Cir., and SCOTUS has previously not required literal interpretation of Rule 3(c)(1)(B).

    We spent a decade plus saying coding was the single most important skill you could have. Coders went from an overinflated sense of importance to being most easily replaced by a machine. I think that says a lot about how tech bro brains are fried in ways the rest of us don't experience.
