    Research, especially in a new area like #longCOVID, needs clinical experience, but it also needs the rigour and depth of understanding of advanced scientific training. Science is a specialty (in fact, a whole family of them) as complex and nuanced as any medical specialty. You can't just wing it.

    An MD is not a PhD. And given equivalent experience, someone with an MD is exactly as well trained to practice science in a given field as someone with a PhD in that area is to practice medicine.

    I'm also really curious if people with autism have more instance of long covid (because there is a lot of overlap between long covid and issues that tend to affect autistic people, like MCAS).

    The limitations that long covid causes might make it difficult to participate in things like clinical trials. But the people who have such difficulties are the ones they need to be looking at.
