the thing that has really kneecapped Itch in recent years is that it has always operated best less as a store and more a forum for self-published games, with a support structure of outlets and Posters to direct and curate people towards the weirdest / coolest curiosities. There is a gross underestimation both of how small itch is compared to even the mid-sized videogame storefronts, but also the degree to which *every single online creative space* is struggling to figure out how to fight this same war of attrition against AI creep.

Even in the absence of systemic anti-AI measures, wild speculation about what artists are or aren't using AI has already been weaponized against independent artists (especially marginalized ones, of course).

And then there's also the False Positive Problem, where accusations of GenAI usage will be weaponized against small creators who will then be forced to prove a negative 🥲

I don't really have a proposed solution here, because - as mentioned - this is a hard problem! It's a massive quantitative shift in user incentives, and a lot of the moderation tools of the modern internet rely on there being more good actors than bad. Right now, it's closer to 50/50.
