    there’s a lot of really great looking indie games that copy everything down to the character design-like and just hope they succeed in a way that leads them down a path of something new in a world with AI I’m glad they’re copying the old fashioned way, but it’s kinda contributing to the same issues

    I think we’ve set up a scenario where indie “games can do no wrong”— even now I’m being vague because they are absolutely the little guy in most scenarios, but I can’t help but see the juxtaposition of everyone thinking “indie games are a bastion of creativity” when most are just “game I like again”

    it all feels very socially reinforced that “game I like but again” is what everyone wants to play, make and most importantly buy. Like I don’t think there’s anything nefarious about it, which makes it hard to criticize lol But not enough indies are making pikmin because they were into gardening lol
