    We find that setting budgets by archetype (like content-heavy marketing vs web app) works better than a one-size-fits-all rule. Focusing early on Core Web Vitals targets alongside strict transfer limits for JavaScript and third parties keeps it manageable across different clients.

    TLDR, budgets / goals are helpful, but I think the best thing you can do is look at pages by volume of traffic impact and CWV, sort by worst — improve, then move to the next one.

    Passing Core Web Vitals (all metrics green) is a really good start, though I’d also extend it to say that CLS should just never happen at all. Budgets for file transfer sizes are less useful, but can be good to keep in check.

    It really is a per-project deal, unless all the sites in question are basically the same, even WordPress sites I manage are all very different with their own requirements
