My middle son is a math major in college and I asked him what he thinks about all the AI math proofs and his take is basically that there’s no benefit to having a machine do a lot of advanced math research because advanced math isn’t, like, necessary.

a large percentage of human endeavor is really only interesting because humans do it playing chess, for example, is pointless and has been since a computer beat a grandmaster. that’s not why people play chess tho.
